Full job description here.

Interning at Volu.me isn’t your average 9-5. In fact, it isn’t really your average anything. Home to app developers, product specialists and community managers, Volu.me is a bold, creative (and terribly sarcastic) team of music fans, creating new ways for fans and artists to connect using mobile tech. If you love music, or are addicted to your phone, this job is for you. Just a short walk from the TTC, the office is across the street from Ryerson University and just upstairs from coffee & burritos (yep).

As an intern, you’ll build apps (seriously, no programming experience required), help support our roster of clients, and document our projects (and office antics) on social media.

A day in the life of a Volu.me intern includes:

  • Curating our office playlist
  • Liberal use of Basecamp for project management
  • Hip Chat for office banter
  • Mini-Basketball challenges
  • Hang time with Emma & Jasper, our resident canine support team

Extra-All-Time-High-Score-Points if you’re an aspiring developer, Photoshop rockstar, have experience creating content for social media, and can hold your own in a battle of wits.

To apply, send a resume, cover letter and links to examples of your work to our Community Manager, Kat.

Volu.me Interns, Winter 2015

We’re looking for a developer that’s comfortable in all aspects of PHP, and has live examples of their work to prove it.

Your day-to-day tasks will utilize PHP5+, JavaScript, HTML5, and MySQL, with particular emphasis on PHP5+. Bonus points and high fives if you’re an ace at jQuery, AngularJS, CakePHP, Objective-C or Java.

Think you might be the PHP Developer we are looking for?  Please send us a couple links to things you’ve built that we can play with, along with your CV. (HR@Volu.me)

Your Mobile App has the ability to combine both automatic content feeds, as well as manually added content. While the automatic feeds ensure your Mobile App is always up to date, adding exclusive content for your fans can help to encourage installations. More importantly, it’s an opportunity to reward your Superfans for their loyalty and increase their engagement.

Adding an official app to your arsenal of communication channels might be an easy choice for you as an artist – it’s a direct connection to your most active supporters. But what’s in it for your fans?

We’ve compiled the top three reasons fans are downloading our artists’ official mobile apps:

#1. To keep it all in one place

Like your fans, you’re active across multiple platforms – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, your own blog or website, and probably more. By downloading your official app, your fans can access it all in a single place through one simple touch of their home screen.

#2. To be an insider

When your fans install your app, they know they won’t miss an important announcement again. Now they’ll receive a notification directly to their phone.

But in our experience, what they’re really hoping for is to be a part of your inner circle. So go ahead and hint at new music and tours through your app – then offer exclusives that they can’t get anywhere else.

#3. To gain access to offline experiences

Your app is an easy way to amp up the things you’re already doing. Connect you to your fan community in person and reward your most loyal fans through your app with things like:

  • Tour pre-sales or VIP tickets
  • In-venue giveaways (anything from signed merch, to seat upgrades, or a meet and greet)
  • Post-show merch offers

The bottom line is, your fans install your mobile app because they want stay connected. They’ve given you the most direct line into their lives (short of inviting you over for dinner!). How you communicate with them will depend on your own personal style and the projects you’re working on, but know that your app has you well on your way to maintaining a strong connection to your most loyal audience.

Our Volu.me apps are simple and easy to build, even if you’re not a tech-nerd. Try it for yourself here.

As we get some brand new Estimote Beacons provisioned for one of our bands to deploy at an upcoming live-music event (more on that to come), we thought we might quickly answer a common question we get asked; What does a Beacon look like?

Our Beacons are manufactured by Estimote, and can be deployed night after night in different venues.  Setting up beacons within a venue generally takes as little as 30 minutes.

Volu.me (http://Volu.me) is a mobile startup that works with bands like City and Colour, The Tragically Hip, Hedley, The Goo Goo Dolls, Tegan and Sara and LIGHTS to power their Official Mobile Apps for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.

As we continue to build out some pretty awesome tools to help bands engage and monetize their fanbase on mobile, we are looking to add an Intermediate PHP Developer to our full-time team here in Toronto.

We need a developer that’s comfortable in all aspects of PHP development and can show us examples of their work on live websites we can play with.

Experience required in PHP5+, JavaScript, HTML5, and MySQL, with particular emphasis on PHP5+.

Bonus points if you’ve got experience in jQuery, AngularJS, CakePHP, Objective-C or Java.

Salary to be dependent on experience and background.

Short term though, we’ve already updated all artist apps powered by Volu.me to support fans on iOS 8.  These updates are already live and available in the Apple App Store.
